About Atlas
At Atlas, we’re reshaping the hospitality industry through automation, transparency, and operational efficiency.
Our flagship product, Atlas Direct Tips, streamlines tip management for businesses and employees, moving hundreds of millions of dollars in tips from employers to employees. We’re expanding into a broader suite of tools to help operators run leaner, smarter, and more profitably.
Backed by N49P, Northside Ventures, Union Capital and other notable investors, we’re a fast-growing startup looking for a Staff Engineer to help scale our platform, improve our architecture, and contribute to new product development
The role
We're hiring a Staff Developer to be the technical driver for Atlas's next phase.
You'll work across the entire platform: designing foundational systems, solving the hardest architectural problems, and building the plans that let our delivery teams move faster and safer.
The right person looks at this and sees opportunity everywhere. They can identify and build a sequence of targeted improvements that compound. You know how to make a system meaningfully better while it's running in production and processing real money.
What we're looking for
You're capable of operating at staff level
You've owned technical direction across multiple teams, made architectural decisions that stuck, and influenced engineers who didn't report to you.
You move fast without breaking things that matter
You can tell the difference between "this shortcut is fine for now" and "this shortcut will cause us real problems" You're pragmatic about debt and rigorous about money.
You identify anti-patterns and fix them
Not by just talking about it but by shipping better alternatives that make the old way obviously worse. You improve systems and practices by demonstrating value.
You're adaptable
The ratio of thinking to building will shift over time. Some weeks you're writing architecture proposals. Some weeks you're deep in a migration. You're comfortable with both and don't need someone to tell you which mode to be in.
You'VE DONE THIS BEFORE
You have experience in early-stage startups, including the ability to wear multiple hats and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You demonstrate strong product-thinking and an ownership mindset, capable of balancing short-term delivery with long-term scalability.
What will set you apart
These will move you to the top of the list, but we won't filter you out without them:
Fintech or financial systems experience
Dual-entry ledgers, payment processing, transaction reconciliation, audit trails. If you've built software where money moves and the numbers have to be right, you'll ramp faster.
Python/Django, React/Next.js/TypeScript
You'll be effective sooner if you know aspects of our technical stack already.
Hospitality or payroll domain knowledge
Tips, payroll scheduling integrations, POS systems - if you've seen this world before, even better.
What this isn't
Not a management role
No direct reports. Your influence comes from the quality of your work and ideas.
Not a pure architecture role
You'll write real code, review real PRs, and ship to production. This isn't a job where you draw diagrams and hand them to someone else.
Not a greenfield rebuild
You'll be improving a running system that processes real money for real people. You need to be comfortable making things better while they're running.
Why join us?
Be part of shaping the future of hospitality automation.
Join a fast-growing team with real customer traction and big ambitions.
Competitive compensation, benefits, and equity.
Work on meaningful problems with a smart, collaborative, and driven team.
